Comm326 : Creating for the Web

Who I Am

I’m Alex Dugger. I’ve been designing and developing websites for over 20 years, and I also edit storytelling podcasts for Goshen College’s More Than Just Stories project.

What This Class Is (and Isn’t)

This is a highly hands-on, project-based course. It is designed for content strategists, communication professionals, and site managers, not computer science majors. We won’t be hand-coding websites from scratch. Instead, we will learn to read HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and build and manage sites using WordPress (which powers about 40% of the web)

Description (from the course catalog):

This course will provide students with an examination of the necessary tools for building web pages. Focus will be placed on utilizing design elements and principles to emphasize the importance of the web as an effective form of communication. Languages of page development (HTML/CSS), responsive web design, and modern CMS will also be studied as a major part of this course.

Assignments

Your major assignment for the semester is a team-built website for an organization of your choosing….

This is a really big image, but this theme shrinks it down to fit on our page!
